The Hale Pono Youth Shelter will serve as a hub for resources and support for teens in Maui. It will provide resources for teens and their families.

Hale Pono will offer a variety of youth programs for teens aged 12-17 who are in need of support, community, life skills, and more. These programs are designed to help young people navigate the challenges of adolescence, build relationships with peers and mentors, and develop the skills they need to succeed in life.

Some of the programs that will be available include mentoring programs, after-school programs, job training programs, and recreational activities. These programs are staffed by trained professionals who are committed to helping young people achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Whether a teen is looking for support in dealing with mental health challenges, academic difficulties, or social issues, there is a program Hale Pono can help with.

Peer Mediation

When conflicts arise, we utilize the principles of Nonviolent Communication to resolve them. We help disputants address the unresolved universal human needs that underlie all conflicts. One way we do this is to employ and empower students to mediate conflicts using Peer Mediation to resolve the conflict and further teach Akamai relationship skills.

Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength is a youth program that is focused on suicide prevention. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing well-being, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention.

Games For Life Group

Are you or your child looking for a new after-school activity to create new connections, have fun, and develop important life skills? Games for Life is a youth group for ages 12-17 that uses tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons to offer youth skills in team-building, connection, and communication. Groups are currently meeting at Teran James Young Foundation’s facility in Wailuku. New groups can be arranged in your local area.
